UNMAKING Team contributes to 8th International Degrowth Conference

The UNMAKING team contributed en masse to the 8th International Degrowth Conference that took place between 23-28 August in Den Haag (the Netherlands).

The UNMAKING team (co-)organized various conference sessions:

  • Conference plenary on Anarchism and Degrowth (co-organized by Jacob Smessaert),
  • Conference plenary on Dutch Social Movements and Degrowth (co-organized by Laura van Oers)
  • Conference plenary Urban-Rural Dialogues on Degrowth (co-organized by Giuseppe Feola).

The UNMAKING team also organized the following conference sessions and workshops:

  • Grassroots/Democratic Praxis for a Degrowth Transformation (co-organized by Jacob Smessaert)
  • Envisioning Food Systems for Degrowth workshop (organized by Guilherme Raj, Leonie Guerrero Lara, Laura van Oers, Jacob Smessaert and Julia Spanier)
  • Degrowth, Rurality and Agri-food Systems: Expanding an Emerging Research Field (organized by the entire UNMAKING team)
  • Dialogue Walks: Degrowth in the Netherlands (co-organized by Laura van Oers).

The UNMAKING team also presented the following papers:

  • Democratic praxis in Dutch agrifood collectives: transforming politics for social-ecological transformation (presented by Jacob Smessaert)
  • Degrowth, rurality and agri-food systems: where to for this emerging research field? (presented by Giuseppe Feola)
  • Community supported agriculture as a performance of degrowth in Germany? (presented by Leonie Guerrero Lara and Julia Spanier)
  • Towards a post-capitalist urban metabolism: bringing the rural back in (presented by Julia Spanier).

Finally, while Laura van Oers, Jacob Smessaert and Giuseppe Feola have been part of the Conference’s Assembly and of various organizing committees, all the UNMAKING team members have supported the conference also through volunteering and session facilitation.
